A Modified Shock Tracking–Capturing Finite-Volume Approach for Transient Mixed Flows in Stormwater Systems

چکیده

This paper proposes a modification to previous shock tracking–capturing approach used for simulating transient flows in stormwater systems. Based on the Godunov-type finite-volume (FV) method, this modified uses two governing equations free-surface and pressurized discretized. The flow is simulated using an explicit FV method. A unified approach to Mimetic Finite Difference, Hybrid Finite Volume and Mixed Finite Volume methods

We investigate the connections between several recent methods for the discretization of anisotropic heterogeneous diffusion operators on general grids. We prove that the Mimetic Finite Difference scheme, the Hybrid Finite Volume scheme and the Mixed Finite Volume scheme are in fact identical up to some slight generalizations. As a consequence, some of the mathematical results obtained for each ...

A Robust Two-Equation Model for Transient-Mixed Flows

A finite volume model was built upon earlier work with the aim of simulating free surface flows, pressurized flows and their simultaneous occurrence (mixed flows) in single-liquid and two-phase flow conditions (entrapment and release of air pockets). The model presented herein is based on a two-governing equation model. Three main contributions are presented herein, namely: (1) the ability of t...

Finite-time transport in volume-preserving flows.

Finite-time transport between distinct flow regions is of great relevance to many scientific applications, yet quantitative studies remain scarce to date. The primary obstacle is computing the evolution of material volumes, which is often infeasible due to extreme interfacial stretching. We present a framework for describing and computing finite-time transport in n-dimensional (chaotic) volume-...

A Study of Finite Volume Methods for Viscoelastic Flows

1 INTRODUCTION This study investigates the application of a new hybrid finite element/finite volume scheme to the numerical solution of some viscoelastic flows. Such an FE/FV approach (see similarly Sato and Richardson [3]) is contrasted against a purely finite element alternative, that has previously been developed to address highly elastic problems, see Matallah et al. [2]. For in-compressibl...
